About
Welcome to Where Is Roberg!
This blog is the best way to keep track of Mr. Roberg during his one year leave of absence! I will be updating this blog periodically for the rest of the year to keep you up-to-date on where I’m traveling and what I’m doing.
For more information about what I’m doing, when, and why, check out my early blogs by choosing tags like “background”, “overview”, or “FAQs” under the Categories section to the left.
If you’d like to contact me, I check my school e-mail (robergl@coxsackie-athens.org) regularly. Keep checking back!
A brief history for those who don’t know me:
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a 9th and 10th grade Global History teacher in Coxsackie, New York in my 10th year of teaching. I am a graduate of Coxsackie-Athens, where I currently teach. Almost everyone in my family is, or has been, a teacher including my grandmother, mother (>30 years), father (>35 years), sister (Ms. Roberg), wife (Mrs. Roberg), 8 brothers- & sisters-in-law, and many family friends. You can say that teaching “runs in the family”!
While attending Union College, I spent 3 months at the Goethe Institut in Freiburg, Germany, where I had some of the best experiences of my life and realized that studying and teaching world history was what I wanted to do for a career. When I returned to Union, I found out that I could go on a second term abroad relatively inexpensively (especially compared to the tuition at Union!). I decided to travel to Japan in order to experience a non-western country, where I didn’t know the language and didn’t fit in, like my grandparents had done before me. I spent 4 months studying at Kansai-Gaidai University and living with a wonderful Japanese family. As a foreigner in a strange land, I experienced what it was like to be illiterate (I still cannot read the most complicated Japanese script, kanji), how it felt be pointed at because I “looked different” than everyone else, and know the frustration of being unable to communicate because of a language barrier.
After gradating from Union College with a Masters degree, I interviewed at 4 different schools. Although it was nowhere in my original plan, Coxsackie happened to be the best fit, and I’ve never regretted my choice. I am thoroughly proud of our school, our community, and our students, and can’t wait to share my experiences from this one year leave of absence with all who are interested.
Hi Mr. Roberg,
Have a fun and safe trip! I was wondering if the civil unrest in Pakistan is influencing political thought in India?
Best wishes from C-A!
Mrs. Radez
It figures that a Global History teacher would ask such a tough and insightful question! I’ll do my best to find out the answer.
Thanks for the question and the good wishes,
Mr. Roberg

Me too, Rachel! Monkeys are such interesting animals.
