Censorship and Technology in Shanghai China

Censorship
As my first post from China, I figured it would be appropriate to explain how I’m accomplishing the task. In India and Israel, I was able to find internet cafes or wi-fi spots relatively and post my viewpoints and experiences with no problem. The freedom and availability of the internet was never in doubt. China, however, is a different story.
China is a country with a strict government. They control the media, and restrict internet access. Therefore, I am unable to access my blog and update you all directly. The good news is that my wife has agreed to copy the blog posts that I send to her by e-mail and post them on my site for me. So, even though there might not be pictures right away, she’ll do her best to keep WhereIsRoberg updated as often as possible.
Technology
With that said, the technology here in Shanghai has been great. Only 30 years ago, Shanghai was lagging behind other major cities in the world. Today, it is a modern city with all of the cell phones, cars, subway lines, and convenience of New York or London, and the physical movement within the public transportation network has been easy.
The hostel I stayed at for my first few days has been terrific. There are three FREE internet terminals that can be used by guests whenever they are available. In fact, I’m standing at one right now. There is a one hour time limit, but it is rare that anyone takes longer than 15 minutes.
I’ll let Flat Kat update you on our first few days in Shanghai. Just click on the tab for his page above.
Mr. Roberg,
Glad to hear you’ve found a way to update the blog! We’re looking forward to keeping up with you. The students and I are going to the computer lab tomorrow to check your trip out and see Flat Kat! Have fun! Be safe! Love you bro!
Ms. Roberg
